یک دلیل اصلی برای اینکه عالم از یک نقطه شروع شده، در واقع از نظریه نسبیت عام نتیجه گیری شده است.
توجه شما رو به این جمله از مقاله "The Future of Quantum Cosmology" پروفسور هاوکینگ جلب میکنم:
The universe must have had a beginning if 1- Einstein's General Theory of Relativity is correct, 2- The energy density is positive, 3- The universe contains the ammount of matter we observe
.These showed that if General Relativity were correct, the universe would have begun with a singularity
